The Ph.D. project with the working title Schöne neue Plastik. Die veränderbaren Werke von Charlotte Posenenske examines the work of the German artist Charlotte Posenenske (1930–1985). The work, developed over twelve years, was only selectively discussed in-depth so far. The dissertation centers on the sculptural works from 1967/68, conceived for mass production and sold at cost. The changeability of the Series DDW, and E is often considered to indicate that the works are sites of collective action and present a vision of a democratic society. However, the Ph.D. aims to critically examine this affirmative understanding through close readings of the works, the analysis of ephemera such as invitation cards or photographs, and against the background of theoretical positions – aiming to add a dimension to the reception of Posenenske's œuvre and anchor the works more firmly in a (cultural) historical context.
