Stephan Mulhall ist Fellow und Professor für Philosophie am New College, Oxford. Seine Forschungen beschäftigen sich schwerpunktmässig mit Wittgenstein, Heidegger und Nietzsche, mit Religionsphilosophie sowie dem Verhältnis von Philosophie und Kunst, insbesondere Film und Literatur.
Über seinen Vortrag schreibt er:
„In this lecture, I will argue that Western European modernity exhibits a distinctively melodramatic dimension, one that displays itself in philosophy and the arts (including opera, film, painting and literature), and that indicates a heightened anxiety about our intelligibility to others, and to ourselves. Against this background, Nietzsche‘s work appears as simultaneously symptom, diagnosis and critique.“
