Curriculum Vitae
Markus Klammer is the Schaulager Professor of the Theory of Art in the Department of Art History of the University of Basel and the deputy director of eikones – Center for the Theory and History of the Image. He studied philosophy, art history, and comparative literature in Vienna. From 2006 to 2008, he was a member of the graduate group “Image and Knowledge” at eikones. From 2008 to 2010, he worked as a junior fellow of the International Research Center for Cultural Studies in Vienna and then as an associate researcher of the collaborative research center “Aesthetic Experience and the Dissolution of Artistic Limits” at the Free University of Berlin. From 2009 to 2011, he was a member of the editorial board of 31: Das Magainz des Instituts für Theorie at the Zurich University of the Arts. In 2010, he received his doctorate in philosophy from the University of Vienna with a dissertation on the relation between material and representation in Freud’s psychoanalysis. From 2010 until 2013, he was an associate researcher in the module “Art and the Arts” at eikones. Since 2013 he has acted as a module leader of the research project “Form and Image in Modernity” at eikones.
